No Victors, No Vanquished
When violence becomes transaction
Written by Paul F. Saba Esq.
A newly made partner in a law firm, Teddy Hughes, learns of a lawful arms deal which the firm has agreed to take on. If implemented, it will cause mass murder in a conflict raging in a foreign country. A woman he loves, Margaret Meyers, a doctor who has been evacuated, appears unannounced at the firm late one night, and appeals to Teddy to find a way to stop the transaction. The appeal contains an ambiguous threat of violence. A fierce clash ensues between Teddy, Carla Holmgren (the managing partner), and Leo Jones (the senior account partner), who is rushing to close the deal on deadline. No Victors, No Vanquished concerns a struggle to find a response to the hyper-violence of our time amid competing demands of conscience, career, professional responsibility, love and the law.
“And now I’m going to go contemplate the play of light on stone in what remains of this cold spring day.” –Leo Jones, No Victors, No Vanquished
